Economic Sustainability

What is economic sustainability? Practices that support long-term economic growth without negatively impacting social, cultural, and environmental aspects of the community. It's important because we need our people and environment in order to see economic growth.

Plastic, which makes up the majority of packaging materials, is one of the most polluting forces on the planet. It can take up to 1,000 years for plastic to biodegrade, making it crucial to reuse and recycle it as much as possible. Yet between 1950 and 2015, only 9% of the world’s plastic was recycled. The rest ends up in our landfills and oceans.

Researchers announced that global average temperatures last year were tied for the hottest on record. Meanwhile, the year broke records for disasters including drought, wildfires, and hurricanes—a reality that will only get worse, given the fact that the concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is the highest it’s been in human history.
